Welcome to the Department of Cognitive Neurology at the University Medical Center Göttingen

The Department is headed by Prof. Dr. Melanie Wilke and was established in April 2011 by the Schilling Foundation.

The general goal of our Department is to bridge the gap between basic neuroscience and clinical research by employing electrophysiological, (functional) MRI and brain stimulation/inactivation techniques in healthy subjects, neurological patients and in animal models. In  particular, we aim to understand the neural networks underlying cognitive functions such as spatial awareness and decision making. We are collaborating closely with the Decision and Awareness Group (head: Dr. I. Kagan) at the German Primate Center, Göttingen (DPZ).

Another important part of the Department is the Service Unit MR-Research (head: PD Dr. Peter Dechent), which is active in the field of structural and functional imaging and supports a number of research projects in the context of scientific collaborations in the clinical neuroscience departments.
